I have known a lot of fourth-graders in my life. I was even one myself once. When I was one myself we could never have imagined happening in my own home town what happened in Texas. A different place; a different time. The arc of justice may bend toward justice, but that arc takes some tragic turns on its way to justice. And justice is never secure. It must be fought for and maintained. This isn't linear algebra or multiple regression analysis. Regression to unjustice is always a threat. It's about first of all doing the right thing that we all know is the right thing to do.
