Imani Perry - South to America - Notes

The author is a professor of African American Studies at Princeton.  She owns a PHD in history from Harvard and a law degree and a law degree from Harvard. She is a native of Birmingham.  This book was just published.

Her discussion of Appalachia is by itself worth the price of the book.  Poor and mostly white people.  Trash people.  A region of the country I have never understood.  I always think of West Virginia leaving the Union opposed to slavery might have saved victory for the North.
