Someone asked me yesterday if I like Robert E. Lee. The short answer is no. The reason being is that he was a product of his time and place and he did not rise above his time and place. He had all the tools to transcend his given station in life, and he did not do so. Ultimately he was a loser. The Lost Cause propagandists tried to turn him into a winner, but it won't work. He lost the war.
