I am enjoying Coach Bowden's new memoir from which I learn some interesting things.
The coach makes it clear that he was fired at FSU. He wanted one more year, but the FSU powers that be wouldn't give it to him.
In 1965 Bowden interviewed with Coach Jordan and was offered the job of offensive coordinator. He took the same position at West Virginia Univ. instead. Just think: if he had taken the Auburn job and stayed, he might have become the Auburn head coach in 1976 when Shug retired!
Coach Bowden got his first coaching job in Georgia thanks to a man named Leven Hazlegrove. I used to call on Dr. Hazelgrove in the Samford chemistry department but had no idea that he got Bowden his first head coaching job!
