"In those days there was no money to buy books. I borrowed books from the rental library of Shakespeare and Company, which was the library and bookstore of Sylvia Beach at 12 rue de I'Odeon."
Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast (Paris in the 20's)
I can't imagine being without money to buy books. The next time I am in Paris (which will be the first time) I will make a beeline to Shakespeare and Company.
