Satchel Paige is one of the greatest pitchers of all-time. Unfortunately, Satchel grew up during the Jim Crow era and didn't make to the majors until he was 42 years old. Still, he was able to pitch in the majors for several years thanks mainly to Bill Veeck. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1971 and deservedly so. This is a great biography of the man who grew up in segregated Mobile in the early days of the 20th Century.
