I've been reading noir fiction of the 30's and 40's to expand my meager literary horizons---writers like James M. Cain & Horace McCoy (They Shoot Horses, Don't They?). I've had enough of Thackeray and Hardy for the time being. But don't worry. I am not going to bite my wife when I kiss her, and I am not going to turn into a drifter or a grifter. I have my hankerings, but I am not going to share them on Facebook. The local DA wouldn't understand.
