Federico Finchelstein - A Brief History of Fascist Lies - Notes

This is the best introduction to Fascism I have found.

Some people support Trump something like because "he says what I am thinking."
Here is an explanation by a renowned historian.

"But do Fascist cultists believe their leader's lies just because they are voiced by their leaders? Or do they rather regard them as more veritable forms of truth emerging from the inner self. For the Fascist, these are not contradictory possibilities. Here lies the ideological nature of the Fascist notion of truth. Fascism identifies truth with a transcendental truth rooted in the COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUS and then realized by and through the consciousness of the leader. This belief in the "externalization," the "outing,"of the unconscious is central to Fascists. In Fascism, collective desires are thought to be present in the body and speech of the leader. The elder is supposed to make conscious what was supposedly genuinely unconscious, and thus authentic and truthful.
P. 27

Bingo!

Fascism says that their truth transcends reason and is incarnated in the myth of the leader.  P. 28

When Trump says what you see is not what's happening, this is pure, unadulterated Fascist lies.

Fascists believe in the false mythical over reason.  Absolutely chilling.  P. 28

I had no idea how deep and scary Fascism as a philosophy goes.

Fascism has a deep religious background.  P. 29  Amazing!

The Fascist leader can be recognized as a transcendental figure.  P. 29

The leader issue to reflect the common will.  P. 29

Fascists can think they are creating a new world or a new reality.  P. 30

It is easy to see how Fascism fits so well with Christian Nationalism.

This is an enlightening book.

In a Fascist worldview, the past has to be rewritten and is therefore malleable.  P. 30

This book is stunning.

Fascism is imposed on historical narrative.  P. 30

Fascism truth is immutable.  P. 31

A mythical truth incarnated in the leader.  P. 31

Hitler ran into trouble with the Christian church.  P.33

In the Jews Hitler Fascists saw transcendental battles that affirmed anti-Semitism that transcended human history.    P. 33

Of course Hitler called the Jews the greatest liars.  P. 35

Argentinian Fascism is beyond my interest.  P. 36

Fascists have to eternally search for new enemies.  P. 37

Extermination was hard to believe just like it's hard to believe it could happen today.  P. 37

Fascists need enemies to embody untruths.  P. 37

It seems to me that extermination could be a natural psychological outcome given the need for enemies.

I read about the deification of Mussolini.  I had no idea.  P. 49

The depth of this book in the psychology of Fascism is mind-boggling.

Fascism and psychoanalysis is surely dated.  P. 65

Christian Fascism.  P. 66

The Fascist spirit.  Fascist revelations are false and illusory.  Fascism has deep archaic roots.  It transfers crude Christian doctrines into slogans violence.  Followers allow themselves to be carried forward by lies. They WANT to religious believe in the leader's lies.  Leaders project their desires onto enemies and followers alike.  Their primary desire is the fulfillment of their followers's repressed desires.  P. 88
