David Plouffe, a senior Harris-Walz adviser, told CNN that, while the campaign still expects the race to be close, he personally believes “there’s a better chance that we’re surprised tomorrow by Kamala Harris doing better — particularly with women voters — than what we saw in ’16 and ’20 where [Donald] Trump overperformed.”
“History suggests that one of us — Trump or Harris — might have a hidden positive surprise, that we’ll do 10 points or three points better than the data suggests,” he said Monday evening. “But we certainly are planning for a race where that doesn’t happen.”
