I have always been fond of Ted Williams. He aspired to be the greatest hitter of all-time. Lifetime BA of .344. 521 homeruns despite missing 5 seasons serving his country flying military planes in WWII and Korea. He pulled every pitch hitting the ball as hard as he could despite the right side of the field being stacked against him. Unlike Yogi Berra he would not swing at bad pitches. His eyesight was legendary. Hence, flying those planes. He claimed he could see the ball touch the bat.
Ted Williams said that hitting major league pitching is the hardest single thing to do in all of sports. No doubt.
He grew up in San Diego but once he left he never went back.
The Kid. The Splendid Splinter. Teddy Ballgame.
