The Times
I had an interesting conversation today with one of my friends who is retiring from the education dept. at Samford University. Dave has both a PHD in education and a law degree from Cumberland. He is an expert in school law. He tells me about a situation in a HS in Northeast Alabama where a teacher made a racist post on Facebook. It's a difficult situation in that the community and school is roughly split 50/50 racially. Half of the students. faculty, and community want the teacher fired and half do not. Legally the school can fire the teacher on morals, but it comes down to a strictly political not a legal decision on the part of the school board. This is what we've come to in this country, and in the present political climate it will probably only get worse. It is very sad to me.
