Society's Child
Society has made some things easier over the years. These days you
seldom have to watch your language in mixed company though it's still
taboo to make tacky remarks at funerals. My crudeness and lack of
social graces aren't as troublesome as they used to be. Greater
acceptance seems to come with age. Dirty jokes aren't as dirty as they
used to be. Birmingham welcomes the Dalai Lama this weekend. I have a
feeling this wouldn't have happened in 1958. Back then a KKK rally
would have drawn more people. The future is not what it used to be, but
at least when the time comes for knee replacement maybe there will be
walk-in service.
