According to my Mother, the greatest singer who ever lived was Jimmie Rodgers. He was the first country music superstar in the 20's and 30's, known as the "The Singing Brakeman" because he sang so many songs about trains. Those were the depression years of hobos and hopping trains and desperately looking for work. We read about and listen to the stories about those years fortunate that we didn't live thru them. But our parents lived thru those years, and they knew things that we will never totally understand.
