Lincoln: A President for the Ages
Edited by Karl Weber
This is a collection of essays to accompany the movie.
Finished 10/24
The best essay is by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Gates is not a Lincoln scholar but that makes his opinions more valuable. Professor Gates rides the Lincoln grew and changed his racial views train due to the changes he experienced in the war. Eric Foner says that Lincoln's greatest trait was his capacity for change and growth. As Booth did his dastardly deed Lincoln was growing and changing. We will never know where he would have ended up.
I end the year reading We Have the War Upon Us by William J. Cooper.
