 Michael Tomasky

So it looks like that "summit" was a bust yesterday. But the event was no mere diplomatic flop. The media coverage isn't quite conveying what a comprehensive moral indignity this event was for the United States of America and for all small-d democratic people across the world. The President of the United States literally rolled out the red carpet for an accused war criminal who had ordered the flagrant killing of civilians, bombing of hospitals, and allegedly (this is the heart of the allegations at the Hague) the abudction of 16,000 Ukranian children, including toddlers and infants, ripped from their homes and their parents and sent to Russia. On top of all the other stuff (the political foes falling out of windows). We the people of the United States welcomed this man to American soil and flew a bomber salute to honor him.
Yes, we have to have summits with people we don't like. But we don't have to have red carpets and B-2's flying above. A sick and horrible day for this country.
