In its efforts to gentrify Pelham (ha, ha) the city is purchasing property here and there to redevelop it. The service station/convenience store that I have patronized for 25 years is closing because the city has purchased the property for redevelopment. Nothing to do with COVID. The culprit is "progress."
I am so sad.
Ruthie has to leave. She is not sure where she will move her business. Her store is a landmark in Pelham. She has merchandise that cannot be moved. She will sustain substantial losses with no recourse.
We all know that life is not fair. So-called progress has its downsides in the lives of people.
