Senator Jones

Alabama is lucky to have a Senator like Doug Jones.  He is a quality person, doing an amazing job in the U.S. Senate for Alabama.  He is SO impressive in person.  I cannot imagine anyone who hears him speak and examines his record for this state not voting for him.

Last night at the bi-monthly meeting of the Shelby County Democrats I attended the meeting for the first time with Senator Jones being the guest of honor.  It was a good turnout.  Almost all of the attendees I would say were over 50, more over 60 than 50.  My kind of crowd.  :)

Senator Jones talks about finding common ground with Republicans.  He does so in the Senate on behalf of his state.  He mentions working with Sen. Cruz on something and then working with the lady from Maine on something else.  He and Senator Shelby are friends.  He does not, and will not, bad mouth Republicans.  His focus is on helping the state of Alabama and his national focus is on what is best for the country but always Alabama first.

Senator Jones is a man about whom you would first say he is a good and decent man.  You cannot say that about most Republicans.

Though not saying negative things about Republicans, it is obvious that he loathes Mitch McConnell. Nothing gets done in the Senate without his approval.

Doug Jones is the kind of centrist Democrat with whom I resonate.  We desperately need to keep him as one of our Senators.
