Arrival (Movie Review)

The thesis is a classic SciFi theme: what happens when intelligent beings from another world visit earth?  It is obvious that communication with them would be a serious problem.  After all, it stands to reason they would not speak any of our languages.  Twelve spaceships hover over twelve different places on the planet.  One of them is in Montana.  So you have 12 different countries trying to communicate with these aliens.  What do they want?  The US has a team including a linguist from Berkeley and a theoretical physicist from Stanford.  The linguist figure it out just in time.  I don't usually like science fiction.  There seems to be so much out there in movieland.  This is an intelligent one.  Combining commentary about the nonlinear time, it can make you think.
