Run Right at 'Em

There was a Thompson football player, the right tackle, in my doctor's office this morning.  
I told him I had some advice for the big game Friday night against Hoover.
He said, "Bring it on!"
I said, "Run right at 'em!"
He laughed. Good thing he wasn't expecting REAL advice.

An anonymous op-ed appeared in the NY Times written by someone inside the admin ripping Trump saying that there were people on the inside fighting against Trump, trying to save the country.

Run Over Them

There is the story of how President Lyndon Johnson had a conversation with Senator Richard Russell of Georgia as the President was successfully leading the Congress to pass the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964. Senator Russell was deemed to be an exceptional Senator and might have been a presidential candidate except. . . except. . . that he was a traditional Southern segregationist and racist.
"Dick," said the Presdient, "we ARE going to pass a civil rights bill. We hopeyou're with us, but if you aren't, we are going to run over you."
The Senate voted cloture---it took 67 votes---and the legendary bill became law and Senator Russell never changed his nature or his views.
The lesson is that on matters like this you will not be successful persuading your opponents of the rightness of your position. You have to run over them to do the right thing. Pure power politics. Republicans know this. Democrats need to remember and act accordingly when they get the chance. You don't "persuade" Trump cultists because it cannot be done. Forget about it. You have to run over them.
