The history wars fascinate and thrill me. Fascinate because they confirm what I realized in 1973 as a college history student: that the past is always interpreted thru the lens of the present. To understand the present requires a keen study of the past and the realization that our view of the past can always change. Thrill because the current history wars confirm my belief that history is supremely important and that my years of historiographical study has not been in vain.
